What is a MyxerCode™?

MyxerCodes™ allow ringtones and wallpapers hosted by Myxer to be downloaded and purchased directly from a mobile phone.

MyxerCodes extend the benefits of selling and sharing with Myxer by making mobile content accessible without the use of a desktop web browser, and by enabling the billing of premium content directly to a user’s phone bill.

There is no charge to you for using MyxerCodes to distribute premium mobile content. People who download your content using MyxerCodes will be billed the retail price (which is set by you).

How do MyxerCodes work?

Whenever a ringtone or wallpaper is created with Myxer, it is assigned a unique MyxerCode. By default, MyxerCodes are simple numbers like “18302″, though custom MyxerCodes that contain words may also be registered.

Anyone can request the download of any Myxer content by texting its MyxerCode to the MYXER (69937) shortcode. (A “shortcode” is just a 5 digit number that can be used just like a normal phone number for text messaging.)

If the requested content is premium - meaning the artist who created it has set a non-zero price - the requesting phone will be sent a confirmation message that clearly states the purchase price, and requests a “yes” reply to confirm the purchase. Upon receiving the “yes” response, Myxer will deliver the content to the requesting phone, and charge the subscriber’s phone bill once the download is complete.

If the requested content is free, a link to download it will be immediately sent back to the requesting phone without requiring a “yes” confirmation. The subscriber will not be billed for the content (though normal text messaging and bandwidth charges from their carrier may apply).

Where can I find the MyxerCode for my shared ringtones and wallpapers?

Every piece of mobile content available from Myxer has an associated MyxerCode. The default MyxerCode for an item is the item’s catalog ID, which is a simple number like “16532″.

You can find an item’s default MyxerCode by simply clicking on it.

Who can use MyxerCodes™?

MyxerCodes™ work with all US carriers supported by Myxer (this is basically everybody except Nextel, Boost Mobile, and Telus Mobility).

Note that premium content - that is, content with a non-zero price - can only be purchased with a MyxerCode if the subscriber is on one of the major US carriers: AT&T, Cellular One, Sprint, T-Mobile. Users on non-major carriers who attempt to purchase content with a MyxerCode will be sent an SMS message informing them that they must make their purchase via the Myxer.com website.

MyxerCodes and MyxerTags are two different but complementary ways to provide access to your original mobile content. We encourage artists to use both of these features of their Myxer account to most effectively promote their content.

MyxerCodes

MyxerCodes are the best way to distribute mobile content directly to mobile phones. By promoting your MyxerCodes in print (concert fliers, CD inserts, etc.) or in person, anyone you come into contact with in “the real world” can get your mobile content with a simple text message.

Every product in the Myxer catalog is assigned a unique MyxerCode, which makes it available for download or purchase directly from any compatible mobile phone. Your fans simply send a text message to the MyxerTones shortcode (69937, which is “MYXER” on the phone keypad) that contains your products MyxerCode, and the product will be delivered right to their phone.

MyxerCodes work with both free content and premium content (which is billed to the user’s phone bill), and is a great way to provide instant access to your content from a concert, printed advertisement, or television spot.

MyxerTags

The most effective way to promote your ringtones and wallpapers is through an existing website or blog. MyxerTags are simple Flash widget that provide an easy way for you to make your ringtones and wallpapers accessible with a single click from your own web page. Visitors to your website can click on a MyxerTag, enter their phone number, and receive your mobile content.
