Yes, these games really are available at no charge from Myxer, just like the vast majority of our other mobile content. The games are paid for by advertisements shown before and after the games.

Will my phone company charge me anything?

Your phone company may charge you for using your phone to download and play these games. If you request that we send you an SMS message with a download link, your phone company may charge you for a standard text message based on your phone plan. When you download our games, you use airtime (or data), and your phone company may charge you for that, depending on your plan. Lastly, these games will periodically connect to our servers, and that will use airtime as well. We recommend that you sign up for a data plan with your phone company. In particular, we recommend an unlimited data plan if available, since they’re generally pretty economical.

How much data is used when playing games?

Our games connect back to our servers to report the ads shown so that we can bill advertisers and pay publishers. They also have to fetch new ads. Typically this is 20-25Kb per connection. You do not typically have to connect every time you play.

The ads are shown only before and after the game play, much like commercials in a television show. The only SMS we’ll ever send you is if you explicitly ask us to send you a single download link for one of our games

Absolutely. We have formal distribution agreements with all the game publishers represented on our site. While the games are completely free to you, advertisers pay to get into the system, and most of that money goes directly to the publishers.

Yes, these game downloads are safe for your phone. Unlike PC downloads that can contain spyware or viruses, phones are usually more secure with restrictions on what downloads can do. Furthermore, because our games use the Java runtime, there is another layer protecting your phone and giving you confidence about the safety of our games.

Why does it say the game is “unsigned” or “untrusted”?

This is normal and indicates that the games do not come from your wireless carrier, nor have they been “signed” by your carrier. The games are still safe for your phone.

Where is the game I downloaded to my phone?

After you install a game, it will be available from your phone menu. Each phone is slightly different, although you can typically find the game by selecting the “Apps”, “Applications”, or “Games” icon in your phone menu.

My game did not run, now what?

If you successfully downloaded the game, but it does not start at all, it may have been corrupted during download, and trying the download again may solve the problem. If the game starts and says that network access is required, then you must be in an area with wireless coverage and allow the game to fetch ads from the servers before you can play.

Most of our games work on a broad variety of phones, but some of them may not work on your phone. Once we know what kind of phone you have, which happens as soon as you’ve attempted to download at least one item from our site, we enable you to see just the games that will work for your phone. We’ll tell you right away if you try to download a game that we know won’t work on your phone. Again, you may have to try one download before we really know what type of phone you have. This is a beta release, and we’re working hard every day to increase the number of phones and carriers that we’ll support.
